Welcome to the Maths area

What does Maths at Cuddington look like?

Maths Central Questions throughout the term which:
•Gives the children a context for the maths skills they are learning.
•Works towards solving one main problem (central question) by the end of the unit.
•Promotes independent learning.
•Encourages children to solve open ended problems in a variety of ways.
•Gives brilliant opportunity for assessment throughout.
•Links different areas of maths.

Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving:
•Building upon key skills across the year (see calculation policy).
•Developing the correct mathematical language.
•Working and presenting maths in different ways.
•Developing the correct mathematical language.
•Challenging independent work with flexible groupings
•Use of maths resources in the classroom.
•Maths linked to topics.

In Key Stage 2 - Maths Lounge:
•Gives the children a context for the maths skills they are learning.
•Promotes independent learning with positive approaches to tackling tricky tasks.
•Encourages children to solve open ended problems in a variety of ways.
•Working in a variety of ways to demonstrate a solution.
•Links different areas of maths

Mathletics:

Mathletics is a fantastic resource which supports learning in the classroom. Homework will be set by your child's class teacher regularly which allows children to consolidate and apply their learning. Children can then independently work towards bronze, silver and gold as they gain more points when solving different tasks and games.
