GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Pupil Leadership

Pupil Leadership

Cuddington Croft Primary School prides itself in enabling our children to have their voice heard and to offer children of all ages the opportunity to lead and be active members of our school community.

We offer the children a variety of opportunities to be leaders. We continue to champion our children with these roles and support their understanding of how important it is to give them opportunities to be active young citizens and play a positive role in all aspects of school life.

What opportunities for Pupil Leadership do we offer?

  • Year 6 PAs
  • Digital Leaders
  • Play leaders
  • Year 6 House Captains
  • School Council Representatives
  • Class Ambassadors
  • Sports leaders

School Council:

After learning more about Democracy, we have seen Year 1 through to Year 6 hold an anonymous election at the start of the year to vote for their new School Council member. Two members are elected per class to represent their views and to feedback on any discussions they have had in their class. School council allows the children to have a say in the decisions that affect them. They can promote and support what they believe in.

The role of our School Council is:

  • to represent the views of the children;
  • to raise issues with the adults and tell them about any problems;
  • to have a say in decisions about things that affect the children at our school;
  • to play an active part in making our school a better place.

The School Council then meets every half term to discuss issues that are important to the children or to provide pupils' opinions to help our school leadership team make decisions.

Sometimes the children will choose items to be discussed, and sometimes the school leadership team or our school governors will ask that a matter is taken to the School Council so that they can find out what the children think.  In recent months this has included decisions about our new class names and house group theme, how children would like to celebrate Book Week and fundraise for Sport Relief, how we can improve our school website, giving feedback on displays in school and our new behaviour policy, etc.

The agenda and minutes of School Council meetings are shared amongst our whole school community, giving all children, staff, governors, parents and carers the opportunity to see how our School Council works, the decisions they help to make and the impact they have on Cuddington Croft as a whole.

Class Ambassadors

At Cuddington, each class from Year 1 to Year 6 has a class ambassador chosen by the class teacher. This is an important role which includes meeting and greeting visitors, to explain their role, and to discuss their learning which is taking place in the classroom. The class ambassadors change regularly and we want to actively encourage all children to have the confidence to share their learning.

Championing and celebrating our children:

In our 6C weekly assemblies, we celebrate the children’s achievements across the school by sharing the 6C achiever of the week, star writer and packtype nominee.

At the end of the academic year, Year 6 attend an awards night. This is an opportunity for all children to be praised for their achievements throughout their time with us at Cuddington Croft Primary School. Alongside this, each child receives an award which is personal to them which is decided through input from the staff at school. Our 6Cs are an integral part of our school ethos and we are proud to award 6 Oscars for the children who have been nominated for the 6C award. The names of the children are then located in our school foyer. We also have two Sportsmanship awards, a Headteacher’s award and the Shine award. The Shine award is one that is awarded to a child who consistently demonstrates all of the characteristics that are instilled here at Cuddington.

What are our next steps for pupil leadership?

As the year progresses, we are looking to develop our pupil leadership further by offering children the opportunity to volunteer to be an eco ambassador for their class too.

We are also working to use the SSAT pupil leadership accreditation (PLA) to champion and celebrate our childrens’ skills and talents both within and outside of school.
