Year 5's Mayan Chocolate Workshop
Year 5 were extremely lucky to have Mrs Mahesh come in and deliver a workshop about Mayan chocolate. We learnt about how the Mayans harvested their cocoa beans and how they turned them into the cocoa powder which we know of today.
The highlight of the workshop was definitely the chocolate tasting part! We tried lots of different types of chocolate and tried to analyse the flavours. Some of the chocolates had an earthy taste, whilst others were a lot more fruity. An unusual flavour was the ruby chocolate. Did you know this comes from a cocoa bean that is grown in a laboratory and cannot be found in the wild?
Two quotes from two children in Year 5 were: "I didn't know rubys could be so tasty!"
"The workshop has changed how I eat chocolate. I now let it melt on my tongue so that I can taste the flavour!"
Thank you to Mrs Mahesh for coming in and sharing your knowledge and chocolate with us.
