GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Pupil Leadership

Pupil Leadership

Cuddington Croft Primary School prides itself in enabling our children to have their voice heard and to offer children of all ages the opportunity to lead and be active members of our school community.

We offer the children a variety of opportunities to be leaders. We continue to champion our children with these roles and support their understanding of how important it is to give them opportunities to be active young citizens and play a positive role in all aspects of school life.

What opportunities for Pupil Leadership do we offer?

  • Year 6 PAs
  • Digital Leaders
  • Year 6 House Leaders
  • School Council Representatives
  • Sports Crew
  • Children that Care (CTC)
  • Eco - Leaders
  • Year 6 News Reporters (See an example of our newsletters)

School Council:

After learning more about Democracy, we have seen Year 1 through to Year 6 hold an anonymous election at the start of the year to vote for their new School Council member. Two members are elected per class to represent their views and to feedback on any discussions they have had in their class. School council allows the children to have a say in the decisions that affect them. They can promote and support what they believe in.

The role of our School Council is:

  • To lead our fellow pupils in improving the school and making it the best it can be.

  • To help to create new ideas to improve the school.

  • To communicate and share key information from the school’s leadership team with our fellow pupils.

  • To communicate any concerns or hopes from the pupils to the leadership team.

  • To help promote pride in our school.

  • To be a role model for positive behaviours within the school.

The School Council then meets every fortnight to discuss issues that are important to the children or to provide pupils' opinions to help our school leadership team make decisions.

Sometimes the children will choose items to be discussed, and sometimes the school leadership team or our school governors will ask that a matter is taken to the School Council so that they can find out what the children think.

In recent months this has included designing and naming our new school library and feeding back on our 6C assemblies - we now have a Reader of the half term! In previous years, we have looked at how we can improve our playground provision in the past, named classes and used our pupil voice to support adaptations to our behaviour policy.

The outcomes of our School Council meetings are shared amongst our whole school community, We feel it isi mportant to see how our School Council works, the decisions they help to make and the impact they have on Cuddington Croft as a whole.

Championing and celebrating our children:

In our 6C weekly assemblies, we celebrate the children’s achievements across the school by sharing the 6C achiever of the week, star writer and half termly reader of the term..

At the end of the academic year, Year 6 attend an awards night. This is an opportunity for all children to be praised for their achievements throughout their time with us at Cuddington Croft Primary School. Alongside this, each child receives an award which is personal to them which is decided through input from the staff and their peers at school.

Our 6Cs are an integral part of our school ethos and we are proud to award 6 Oscars for the children who have been nominated for the 6C award. The names of the children are then located in our school foyer. We also have two Sportsmanship awards, a Citizenship award and the Shine award. The Shine award is one that is awarded to a child who consistently demonstrates all of the characteristics that are instilled here at Cuddington.

What are our next steps for pupil leadership?

As the year progresses, we are looking for our pupil leaders to develop further links with our local community. Through our Eco-leaders we are applying for the Eco-green flag award and our House Leaders continue to organisie our House Charity days with charities that are close to our hearts and linked to our local community..
