GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Uniform Policy

Principles

Our policy is that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We also believe that certain school activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing (including organised events outside normal school hours).

Aims

Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform:

• Promotes a sense of pride in the school

• Engenders a feeling of belonging

• Is practical and distinctive

• Identifies the children with the school

• Is not distracting in class (as fashion clothing might be)

• Makes children feel equal to one another in terms of appearance

• Reflects the sense both of community and of diversity that the school takes pride in

Summer uniform can be worn from the beginning of the Summer term through to October half term if the weather is appropriate.

Personal Appearance:

Headwear and Religious Clothing

  • Religious headwear may be worn (for religious purposes only) and should be either plain black or navy.
  • Baseball caps and bandanas may not be worn.
  • Please speak to a member of staff regarding religious jewellery as this needs to be closely monitored for Health and Safety.

Hair

  • Hair should be neat, tidy, and appropriate for school, as defined by the school. Shoulder length hair, for safety and hygiene reasons, be tied back from the face.
  • Extreme styles and hair colouring will not be permitted (as defined by the school).
  • Shaved lines in hair or eyebrows are not permitted.

Make-Up

  • Nail varnish and make-up is not permitted.
  • Nails should not be a length that may cause injury to others (as defined by the school).

Jewellery/tattoos/piercings

  • No jewellery or tattoos should be worn to school.
  • A small watch may be worn if your child can tell the time – no watches which can make calls or take pictures.
  • Children are not allowed earrings, facial studs, ear expanders or any other earrings. If children (or students) have pierced ears, only small studs should be worn, no earrings of any other kind are allowed. Studs must be removed during all PE lessons, children are expected to remove their own earrings and will be responsible for them, it is preferable not to wear earrings on PE days.
  • Sunglasses are not permitted at school unless they are prescription sunglasses. A sun hat with a brim or peak is more suitable for hot days.

All clothing should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. This is especially important, as uniform items look similar and can easily be confused for another child’s. The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items.
